Drug usage is common in Bristol, as in many UK cities. As study in 2019 showed that Cocaine use in Bristol was higher than in many other cities in Europe, with some suggesting that supply of the drug was cheap and that Bristol could be the cocaine capital of Europe!

Bristol is the second highest drug dependent city in England, according to figures from Bristol’s council and health authorities. For example, there are nearly 5,000 active users of crack and heroin in the city.

The city also has nearly double the rate of drug-related deaths than the national average. The city recorded 41 drug-related deaths in 2019. A year later, in 2020, the figure was 38. That rate of 8.9 deaths per 100,000 people compares to a national average of five.

Going into 2022, COVID-19 has changed the way people use drugs in Bristol. More illicit substances being bought over social media or through the dark web.

Last year, Avon and Somerset police seized a staggering 45kg of powder cocaine. That’s over twice as much as the 17kg they confiscated just two years prior. With roughly 50mg per typical dose, that amount could supply around 900,000 hits – enough for nearly one out of every two people living in the Bristol area.

Officers also nabbed 1kg of crack cocaine. With doses averaging 100mg, that’s good for approximately 10,000 rocks. After cannabis, cocaine ranks second in popularity among recreational drugs locally.

Additionally, 18kg of heroin came into custody. Figuring a standard dose at 25mg, that would equal over 700,000 potential injections – a truly concerning amount. Though seizure sizes don’t directly correlate to consumption rates, they signal prevalence.

Speaking of cannabis, it remains the most widely used illegal drug in Avon, Somerset, and the entire UK. Last year saw 120kg of marijuana, 16kg of resin, and close to 11,500 fully grown plants confiscated by area police.

Drug Tests Available in Bristol

In general, there are two kinds of drug test available for drug testing at home that you will find on sale both online and in the Bristol area – urine drug test kits and saliva drug test kits.
12 Panel Urine Drug Test Kit – Type D

Urine Drug Tests

Some prescription medications and illegal drugs can be detected in the urine using a urine drug screen test. Urine drug tests can usually pick up the 13 drugs that are most commonly abused today in Bristol and the United Kingdom.

Single drug tests are made to screen and detect only one kind of drug, like Cannabis, Cocaine or Ecstasy. Multi drug tests are made to detect multiple illegal drugs simultaneously, usually in the range of 5 to 18 drugs. The most popular kind of drug test kits used by the drug clinics in Bristol is the Multi Panel Drug Tests because they can conveniently test and detect many drugs at the same time.

The single urine test kit is made up of a sample dropper and a cassette. A small urine sample is gathered and three urine drops are inserted into the cassette’s well. The results are available in only 5 minutes and they are very accurate. With multi drug test kits, they are usually of the “dip and read” kind – the actual drug test is placed in the sample of urine and again the results are available in just minutes.

Saliva Drug Tests

Saliva drug tests use your saliva to detect small traces of drugs. These kinds of drugs tests are sometimes called drug swab test. The results for saliva drug test kits are available in only minutes and they are simple to use. Saliva drug test kits are usually preferred to urine drug tests kits because they are not as intrusive, but they are usually more costly and the time span for detecting drugs isn’t as long as the urine drug tests kits.

Cocaine Surface Wipes

Cocaine use has been a problem in Bristol for a long time. As far back as 2008, Cocaine Wipes were used to identify the use of cocaine in bars at Bristol University. Certainly proof of drug use is easy to find in many public places. Cocaine surface wipes are most often used in bars and pubs in the city.
